Mesa Verde National Park - THE HIKE!

After driving up a mesa, in the pouring rain, on a very curvy road, we made it to our first stop at the National Park.  Poor Isabel was all tuckered out...too much junk food and driving!

Mesa Verde is an incredible place.  I've been to a lot of ruins throughout Mexico, but I had never seen ruins of cliff dwellers.  It was awesome to see how these people had scaled the cliffs and then built their homes here.  These first two pictures are from the lookout point across the ravine before we started our hike down.

We hiked down a very steep path about 1/2 mile.  Since we could see the rain clouds getting closer, we made Lehonti ride in a stroller to speed up the process!  Poor Limhi had to walk, but he didn't complain.  This is after we made it to the ruins...a close up of what you saw above.

One of the most fascinating things to the boys was the "Keva."  It was a little underground room where the priests would go down for religious ceremonies.  Lehonti and Limhi liked going up and down the ladder.  It sure was dark down there.

Then it was time for the steep hike back up the trail!  We kept stopping for photos, which turned out kind of blurry because by then the rain was really coming down and the lens kept getting wet!
