Inside the Cave

Once we got inside the cave, the tour took about an hour. Timpanogos Cave is actually 3 separate caves that have been connected with tunnels. I took pictures of both the boys as we walked through a fault line.

One of the largest stalagtites is called the Heart of Timpanogos Cave (below). It is huge! Lehonti really liked it when the guide said if you looked closely, you could see the heart beating. Then a little red light turned on behind the formation. Our tour guide is a 4th grade teacher, but works at Timpanogos during the summer. So she had lots of little tidbits and made it fun to learn about the cave.

Some of the stalagtites and stalagmites will grow together one day to create a column (below). In the past 47 years, it has grown 1/4 of an inch...so it will probably take another 200 years!

Our cave BAT (Behind A Tour) guide was nice enough to take a picture of the whole family in one of the main caves. After this, they turned out the lights...it was so dark you couldn't see anything, not even your hand in front of your face. It was a little creepy. All in all, the tour was great fun and a learning experience!
