In September, we were blessed to take a family vacation to Mexico. We took so many pictures that it may take a few posts to share all the places and people we visited. It was probably the best vacation...EVER!
In Mexico City, we visted "El Templo Mayor." It is truly unbelievable that in the middle of a city that is home to 35 million, plus...this structure was discovered. It was built as a temple to "Quetzalcoatl" or "the Great White God."
When the Spanish conquistadors came, they buried the temple and built their own Catholic cathederals. You can actually see 7 centuries of history as they continued to build out over time. Inside the museum is a wall of stone skulls. The boys thought it was pretty cool. I'm not sure if it was the lighting or what, but every single picture we took in the museum came out fuzzy. Spooky!
This complete figure was uncovered by some American archeologists. It is about 6 feet in diameter...very impressive!
