Christmas & A New Year

Usually, I like to have a picture to post with my narrative, but I don't have one today. So, I decided that I wouldn't use the photo as an excuse and share a few thoughts about the goings-on in our home.
The Christmas season was a special one this year. Especially since the boys are getting old enough to understand the true meaning--the birth of Jesus Christ. They thoroughly enjoyed setting up our 3 nativity sets. And this year, the primary children made a presentation of Luke 2 at the beginning of our ward Christmas dinner. Lehonti had the role of a shepherd and Limhi was the angel announcing the birth of Christ. They both really enjoyed practicing and performing. On the Monday before Christmas, we spent Family Home Evening reading Luke 2 in English. We usually have Family Home Evening in Spanish, but I decided since the boys had already learned the story of the birth of Christ in Spanish with the primary, that they should hear the words in English as well. We used an activity from "The Friend" to build yet another nativity set. And although it was only made from construction paper and glue, it was by far our favorite of the year!
As tradition holds, we spent Christmas Eve with the Canton side of the family. We had a small gift exchange between the cousins. And then, as always we ate a TON of really good food. On Christmas morning, the boys woke up and were very excited for presents and then a trip to Grandpa Walsh's house for the afternoon.
New Years Eve is also a pretty big event for our family. This year, the Canton side of the family came to our house. Again, we ate a lot, listened to music, and played games. At the strike of midnight, we wished everyone a happy new year with lots of hugs and kisses to go around. Amazingly, both Lehonti and Limhi stayed awake until 2:30 a.m. due to the festivities. And, they are already talking about next year!
We spent time as a family discussing and making resolutions for 2009. One of the family goals is for Lehonti and Limhi to begin learning to play the piano this year, so I've started teaching them and they are both practicing hard. As we look to what awaits us in 2009, we realize what a great year it will be: welcoming a new baby to the family and blessing her, starting 1st & 2nd grade, and Lehonti being baptized and confirmed.
We hope that 2009 will be a special time for all!
